Welcome to Linux Does

Linux is actually a very simple operating system than what you have probably heard about. One of the biggest reasons most people don't want to use Linux is because it's different. Sorry but if what you're currently using isn't working for you then I don't see the point in not giving something else a chance.

Linux is awesome actually and I've been using Ubuntu for a year now. I love it and I'll never look back. There's so many resources you can find online that explain how to use it and why to use it and you might think this is just more one place explaining all the same stuff - well, it's not.

Not quite anyway.

This blog's job is to make it simple for you to decide for yourself if Linux is right for you and to help you get started. Nowadays however, Linux is more user-friendly than ever which makes it almost a piece of cake to do anything with for just about anyone who wants to give it a try.

That's it for this post... I'll have more to come in the future.

Do you use Linux and if so what Distro do you currently use and why?

  1. I messed with Mandrake Linux about 6 years ago for a few weeks. I was impressed with how well it handled my PC's resources. Well, I got busy in life and let it go, never to mess with Linux again until summer of '08.

I started experimenting with Fedora and Ubuntu. It really tripped my trigger when I successfully installed Fedora on a 4GB USB drive. Wow! I installed Ubuntu as a dual boot with XP on my laptop. Once I started seeing the real benefits of Ubuntu, I installed it on my other 3 PCs. One was used as a media server, the 2nd for my kids, and the 3rd for my wife. The one drawback was my wife and an older Dell printer that wouldn't work with it, but it crapped out since then and our new HP all in one works just great.

So to answer your question as to why... Ubuntu is user friendly enough for my family to use it with no problems at all and it is enough for a geek like me to experiment with linux on a deeper level. I'm quite happy with it. :)

  2. Jeremy,

I believe you have the right idea here. I like how you said you and your family are able to use it with no problems as it is very user friendly and that it is still enough for you to experiment with on a deeper level.

    Great post.
